Terraphase provides assistance with all phases of school site development, from due diligence through construction, including brownfield sites undergoing active soil and groundwater remediation.

Terraphase has been a leader in supporting water purveyors and school districts with the testing of lead in drinking water on school property. Lead in water testing has been performed on behalf of public and private schools with facilities ranging from daycare operations and preschools through high schools.

Since 2017, Terraphase has sampled over 800 schools, taking more than 8,000 water samples to test for lead in drinking water in support of school, state, and local programs and providing recommendations for fixes.

Testing for lead in water in schools is critical because children spend at least 1000 hours per year in school. Pennsylvania Governor Wolf announced his Lead-Free Pennsylvania initiative in 2019. It is funded via Section 2107 of the federal Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. Pennsylvania’s lead testing program for drinking water in schools and childcare centers (the Program) is a public-private partnership headed by PENNVEST and implemented by Terraphase Engineering Inc.
