Supporting Puerto Rican students and families displaced by hurricanes

This event is part of the quarterly Urban/Rural Forum webinar series.

Since the devastating hurricanes, families have been arriving from Puerto Rico to enroll their students in PA schools. In order to respond effectively, some districts have needed to add staff, waive enrollment paperwork, and work with community and businesses partners to support the unique needs of these students and their families. This webinar will provide an overview of the challenges and resources available to school leaders as well as practical strategies for responding to this displaced student population.

What attendees will take away:

  • Better understand the role the board and district administration can play to support faculty, staff, students, and families in their transition into our school systems
  • Better understand the specific needs of these students and families as displaced due to a catastrophic weather event
  • Learn about resources and strategies to better support families and students in need
