2021 Start Strong: Developing a District Onboarding Plan for New Directors

In November 2021, many PA school boards will face a significant transition as they welcome new directors to their governance Team of 10. New directors often arrive full of ideas, energy and a desire to make an impact. Strategic districts will prepare these new directors to be well-informed members of the team by welcoming them with guidance, resources and conversations about the ongoing work of the district.

2021 Start Strong is PSBA’s second iteration of the inaugural 2019 event. PSBA is offering it as a single-day program to support attendees in creating an effective onboarding plan based on best practices and thoughtful prioritization. Grounded in PSBA’s Principles for Governance and Leadership, attendees will hear best practices from their colleagues, PSBA trainers, and an experienced school director and board leader. Participants will be provided with a full year’s schedule, a comprehensive and customizable onboarding manual, and a guidance document for board leaders to plan their own onboarding process.


The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 3:15 p.m. An optional networking opportunity will be provided during lunch for attendees that would like to connect with others during this time. Additionally, the last 45 minutes will be optional as well and will be used to answer questions and clarify details to any information attendees want to know more about. See the full schedule below.

Those that registered for the in person event, your current registration will remain valid and will be carried over automatically. Approximately a week before the event, you will receive a Zoom link enabling you to attend the virtual event.

Additionally, the registration fee will be reduced from $99.00 to $79.00 with standard membership (All-Access member registration remains complimentary).
