Celebrate School Director Recognition Month in January
School board directors volunteer their time and effort to ensure our public schools are governed well, for the benefit of students and the whole community. In honor of these public servants, January is once again being declared School Director Recognition Month. PSBA has compiled a list of resources online to help your district and community celebrate.
January is also a great time to review and readopt the Principles for Governance and Leadership, with your newly elected board members. The Principles are framework designed to increase board effectiveness. Research shows a correlation between highly effective boards and student achievement, so it’s crucial that your board makes every effort to lead at its best. Discuss and reaffirm the Principles with your board, then let us know by submitting the online form. We will send you a new poster for your board to sign and display, and your district will be added to the list of school entities that have adopted.
Celebrating our elected school board directors is one of PSBA’s most important functions. In 2024, your association will be revamping the Honor Roll of School Board Service recognitions in honor of the 40th anniversary of this program! The new initiative will highlight board directors’ service annually as well as at milestones to reflect the ongoing commitment of our members. Look for this and more changes to come later next year.
