PSBA recognizes Laura Johnson as 2021 Allwein Society inductee
On January 20, 2022, the Pennsylvania School Boards Association recognized Laura Johnson of the Pottstown School District as the 2021 inductee into the Allwein Society, the association’s recognition program honoring school directors who are outstanding leaders and advocates on behalf of public schools and students. Johnson was presented with the award by PSBA CEO Nathan Mains at the district board meeting.
Johnson, who has been a school director since 2019, is recognized for her work in advocating for the issues regarding fair and equitable funding for public schools. “Her expertise and tireless commitment to the Pottstown School Board and to the fair funding effort, not only for her district, but for all underfunded districts across the state, is rooted in her genuine desire to even the playing field for each and every public school student in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” stated Nathan Mains PSBA chief executive officer.
The Allwein Society was created by PSBA in 2011 in memory of Timothy M. Allwein, a former PSBA staff member who exemplified the integrity, dedication and commitment to advance political action for the benefit of public education. Originally called the Allwein Award, the name was changed to Allwein Society in 2018 to reflect the ongoing nature of advocacy work.
