School design and construction can be, for many board members and administrators, a daunting aspect of the job. The entire process, from the selection of an architect to PDE requirements under PlanCon, can seem confusing and overwhelming to someone going through the process for the first time. Even those experienced in school construction can use a refresher every now and then to bring everyone up to speed on the latest and best in designing schools to meet the needs of students and the community. To address this need among members, PSBA sponsors the School Design & Construction Conference for new and experienced board members and administrators to discuss and learn about school construction-themed topics. This year’s conference has many new features, including an Architectural Design Competition for students. Through the competition, students are asked to design a LEED Silver-certified addition and renovation to an existing elementary school, providing a healthy and superior learning environment for students, teachers and the community. All entries to the competition will be on display at the conference. Board members, chief school administrators, facilities directors, building administrators, architects and others involved with school design or construction will not want to miss this conference. In addition to many seminars and speakers, more than 30 industry professionals will participate in an exhibit show during the conference, providing an excellent opportunity to make connections and gain greater insight into a district’s construction projects. |
