When new legislation passes, PSBA is seen as the leader in analyzing it and helping members make sense of it.

Supplemental Salaries 2003-04
PSBA Research Department

This year, supplemental salaries increased on average 4.6% over the 2002-03 school year based on 47 of the 48 reported positions. The one position without an increase is noted with NA (not available). Football head coach ranks first in the average salary listing at $5,126. The mentor teacher for induction program ranked last at $628. The annual supplemental salary data were compiled by PSBA's research department from school district collective bargaining agreements containing salary information for supplemental positions.

The figure used in the table that allows districts to compare average supplemental salaries based on the number of pupils within the district is the 2003-04 average daily membership (ADM). The coaching assignments or activity advisers with the 15 highest number of reported positions were used in this table.

A comparison was made between 2002-03 and 2003-04, where available. (See Information Legislative Service, special issue, August 2003.) Where a collective bargaining agreement contained a salary range for the position, the highest salary attainable under the schedule was used when no specific salary was designated. No determination was made as to duties, numbers of students involved and time involvement. Most agreements simply state the position name and the amount allocated. Boxed areas in the charts provide a quick reference to the salary distribution having the greatest number of positions.

Not all positions are reported, and some previously reported positions have been omitted due to insufficient numbers or space limitations. Contact PSBA's research department for data on other positions at (717) 774-2331, ext. 3364.

Note: Salaries for athletic directors and trainers have not been included in as much as the job description including time allocation and responsibilities are varied. Reporting just salaries found on contractual extracurricular coaching schedules may be misleading for these athletic directors and trainers not paid based on such a schedule.
